You have a fever.” “Oh.” It reminded me of Benedict's fever from Season 4 which inspired me to write all this.

“You’re hot,” Kate says almost to herself as she leaned away from his embrace. She could feel how hot his skin was through her night dress.

Benedict grinned down at her, “Thank you, love, but I don’t think right now is the time to-”

Kate hushed him and reached out to touch his forehead. Shaking her head at him, “No, Benedict, you’re burning up. I think you might have a fever.”

“Drat,” Benedict unconsciously said with a sigh, knowing that any reunion coupling would be put on hold. Already he was being pulled down towards the bed, and he knew it wasn’t for any fun activities that he sadly missed while they were in India.

“What did you do, travel all night in the rain?” Kate grumbled in a huff, pulling off his underclothes, luckily he’d already been down to his pants so there wasn’t much else to take off. She checked his body for any potential wounds he might be hiding since she knew he’d gotten into a fight earlier that night.

A chuckle behind them interrupted Kate’s fussing of Benedict. They glanced up to face Anthony, who was leaning against the doorframe to Benedict’s room watching them with amused hunger in his eyes. His cravat, sleeves and waistcoat were undone, but he was mostly dressed as he had been earlier.

“I see you two could not wait for me,” Anthony said when he caught their attention, and he could see Benedict’s face was flushed more so than usual and then he took in Kate’s concerned eyes. “What’s wrong?”

“I think Benedict has a fever,” Kate said before Benedict could contradict her. “Could you get the cook to bring some tea and start some soup? And check if we still have some aspirin?”

“Of course, my love, I’ll be back soon,” Anthony agreed readily, checking over his brother again. He looked mostly fine, just flushed as he leaned back in bed with Kate leaning over him, who’d pulled the blanket up to his chest.

“Don’t worry brother, I feel fine.” Benedict said as he smiled up at him, enjoying Kate’s fussing now that her attention was back on him.

Hoping his brother was correct and this was just a minor fever, Anthony left them together to do what Kate asked of him. The fear of losing his brother ate at him, but he tried to stuff down the fear – Kate was good and she knew what she was doing. He trusted her to take care of him.

“You know I wanted some alone time with you, but this was not exactly what I wished for,” Benedict mumbled as Kate wet a towel and brought it to his forehead.

Kate smiled softly at him and leaned down to kiss his forehead, “This was not part of my plan either, my love. I missed you so much.”

“I’ve missed you two so much,” Benedict admitted quietly and Kate leaned her forehead against his. The breathed in each other scents to try and calm the need to be in each other’s arms again.

“Next time we go, we are going to take you with us, I do not think I could be separate from you for so long again,” Kate admitted when she leaned back.

Benedict smirked, “Oh do not worry, I do not plan on letting you two leave without me again. Even if I shall have to bundle myself as luggage.”

Kate chuckled at his nonsensical idea. “I hope it will not come to that.”

“Neither do I, my love, I feel like it would be very cramped indeed.”

“I do not think that will be necessary brother,” Anthony said as he entered their room again having heard part of their conversation. He crossed the distance between them quickly, sitting down beside Benedict’s legs as Kate sat beside Benedict’s chest. “Tea will be served momentarily. How are you feeling?”

“I do feel tired, and it is a bit chilly in here I guess.” Benedict admitted as his brother brought a hand down to hold his leg and his other hand to touch Kate’s shoulder in order to ground himself. He knew how much it affected Anthony when someone he loved became ill, ever since their father’s death – it often affected him deeper than their other siblings. Kate’s presence often helped his brother whenever this feeling overwhelmed him and once again Benedict couldn’t help but feel relief that Anthony had found Kate. She’s made their lives so much better… just by being her.

“Once the tea is here and you will drink all of it, I want you to sleep until the soup is ready.” Kate ordered, rubbing her hand up and down Benedict’s arm.

Benedict grins playfully when he catches her hand and he intertwined their fingers together, “Only if you two join me for the nap.”

Kate flushed at his playful grin, as Anthony managed to chuckle at his brother since he had entered the room earlier. Hearing his charming brother flirt with his wife, made the worry in Anthony’s chest lessen and he could not help the grin lighting up his face as he took in his wife and brother.

“It’ll warm me better,” Benedict said, knowing that they won’t say no.

And they do not. They have tea while it’s still hot and they both settle down next to him, both on the other side of him so he could be in the middle, and they rest for several hours like that until the soup was deemed ready to be served. They ate it in bed, drink more tea and rest again together in bed for several more hours.

In the late morning, any hint of the fever Benedict might have had was gone, and they finally celebrated their reunion in bed the way they had wanted to do so the first time around. They only seem to leave their bedroom for meals for the next week, and thankfully no one comes calling for any of their presence.

THE END.
