PART 1
It’s been months since Apocalypse… Rogue still wasn’t sure if she ever wanted to be back on field using her powers again – even if the team does, even simple touches with her gloves on puts her on high alert. She hadn’t felt this on edge since her powers first activated or that concert with Ris-Mystique. Heartache and pain simmered under her skin of the memories of those nights. She might not hold those memories personally from her anymore, she did however still knew them – knew they happened. The betrayal behind those actions, those moments still hurt – even after so long.
PART 2
The Danger Room awaits Rogue knows, as she slowly finished putting in her uniform on. The gloves were the only thing left before she was ready to join the others in a session. She vaguely wonders who is running this session... wonders if she could simply tap out. She thinks she could probably get Ororo or Jean to let her out early. Might have to take some convincing for Kitty – she’s the one encouraging this to help Rogue break out of “funk”. If it was Logan or Scott… well, maybe if she injured herself quickly, maybe.
The gloves are on.
PART 3
The room was empty, or it would be if Scott wasn’t there with a warm smile on his face. Rogue took in the empty room, confused; she knew there should be at least be the new mutants here for a training session. Scott comes to her before she could voice any opinion and the only reason she lets him get away with how close he comes is because she trusts him. She might not trust a lot of people, she trusted him.
“I thought it was better to ease you back in,” Scott stated, brushing his hand against her gloves.
PART 4
“Were the kids too scared of my powers?” Rogue managed to ask, knowing he’d tell her the truth. Kitty or the others might have suggested otherwise, but he wouldn’t hold back. He understood her feelings about her powers to a level that the others never quite did… since he too has a lack of control of his own. If his ruby-quartz glasses or visor ever fell off and he didn’t shut his eyes in time? Everything in his eyesight would be destroyed.
“No, I know you’ve been worried so I asked Beast to take them out.”
“Even after last time?”
PART 5
The danger room changes around them, and suddenly they were in a jungle. And not just any jungle – but one with dinosaurs! And sabertooths!
Rogue gasps as she grabs his hand and they run behind a tree before something could attack them.
“Forge got creative when he stopped by, gotta say, it’s one of my new favorite level.” Scott explains with a laugh, he holds his other hand out for her. “You might need some help though.”
Rogue didn’t want to, but knew she had to. Taking a deep breath, she let him tug off her glove to touch him.
PART 6
His power? Now hers to control. He’d already given her his extra visor. She took only as much as she dared to need to defeat this level of the danger room. His latest memories briefly flooded her head, but not enough to control her – somehow his personality never seemed to want to take control of her. She could ignore them for now and focus on the task ahead of them, and studied him as he recovered from her touch. Scott looked only slightly winded, but simply smiled at her before his putting on his battle face.
She can do this.
PART 7
They leave the danger room in laughter, only a few bumps or bruises scattered on their bodies. If you had asked her this morning, Rogue would never have wanted to go to the danger room session to begin with. After spending the hour in what looked like an ancient jungle with dinosaurs everywhere and just a fun – but still dangerous – mission, she hates her earlier hesitation. She knows it’s mostly because of him.
“Thank you for letting me borrow your powers,” Rogue stated, knowing their time together is closing and she wants to avoid going back to reality.
“Anytime, Rogue.”
