Title: Can't Stay Away
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairings: Hermione/Draco
Rating: G
Warnings/Spoilers: AU. Angst.
Summary: "Leave me".
Notes: Written for my 40 Days of Drabbles for
brokengem prompt Hermione/Draco. Inspired by the song I Can't Stay Away by The Veronicas. First HP non-crossover in a long time, lmao.
She shouldn’t be here.
He shouldn’t be here.
They were from two different worlds.
“Leave me,” Draco Malfoy angrily stated, trying to push her away. They hadn’t been found out so far, but since nothing lasts forever, he wanted to end their relationship before either of them got hurt (or killed) because of it. Then again, being apart from her was already killing him and they haven’t ended it yet.
“I can’t stay away from you Draco.” Hermione whispered, her voice cracking as she fought her tears back. She didn’t want to cry in front of him.
“You know you have to,” Draco answered softly, glancing away from her. One look and he wouldn’t be able to leave her again.
“I can handle it. I’m Harry Potter’s best friend…” Hermione stated firmly. “Bloody all to hell! Damn it Draco, look at me!”
In his shock that the Hermione Granger had cursed, he turned to face her. He saw the tear streaks down her cheeks and her red puffy eyes. Taking a deep breath, Draco drew her to him.
“I love you,” he whispered when her arms were wrapped around his waist and her head buried in his chest.
Letting out a loud sniff, Hermione moved her head enough to look at Draco face to face grinning. “I love you too.”
THE END.

Date: 2009-03-16 06:38 pm (UTC)Two teeny tiny little things: I thought that this line
“I can handle it. I’m Harry Potter’s best friend…”
was a little out of character for the way I see Hermione. I would love to hear in the narration why that would be what she chose to say to Draco. I can think of a lot of really interesting reasons, but would love to hear your take.
Also, your use of brit slang was a little awkward, "bloody" is usually used adjectivally (aaaaannnd I'm now the biggest grammar nerd EVER!)
In conclusion, LOVE!

I was going with how as Harry's friend she's in the direct firing of Voldemort, and while she wasn't exactly in direct combat with him (like Harry was), she was still up against him & the other Death Eaters and she survived. Basically she wanted him to know that she can handle whatever anyone throws at them - she just wants to be with him.
And I do have to admit, rereading the "bloody" line, it is a bit awkward, however I think that came from my inner Spike (BTVS).
Anyway I'm really glad that you loved it =)
