spn_twisted Challenge 1 - Team X-Men (even though I was little late for it). Inspired by Worth Waiting For by Tyler Kyte - very good song. It has been a long while since I actually wrote a Evolution fanfic, which I think is why I wanted to write one so badly. This practically wrote itself, and I'm really glad it did. I hadn't expected to reach 500 words, but then I managed to get WAY further then 500, even past 1500 words. This is probably my longest story in awhile.
“I have to say she’s got the hot untouchable Goth thing going on… but seriously? She’s okay… now the red headed one however, well now that’s fine-”
“Do you ever shut up?” Sam Winchester asked his older brother, causing him to grin over at him.
“Come on, now I can’t talk about women? What are ya Sammy?”
“Not you, just leave Rogue alone.” Sam stated before taking a bite of his sandwich.
“I thought so,” Dean said, letting out a laugh. He took a swig of his drink and glanced down at the newspaper in front of him.
“What?” Sam asked, confused.
“Come on, you don’t know what I’m thinking?”
“No Dean, this time you lost me… you weren’t you obvious self as usual.”
“And here I thought I was obvious, you might not be as smart as you think you are.” Dean stated with a wide grin, causing his brother to glare at him. He went back to reading the newspaper, planning on ignoring Sam until he started begging.
“What did you mean?” Sam asked a minute later, impatience distracting him from both eating and finishing his homework.
Dean glanced up, and then smirked. “You sure you want me to say it now? I’m sure she’ll just love it.” He wiggled his eyebrows in suggestion. Sam’s eyes widened in realization at what his brother had been teasing him about. Sam quickly shook his head and glanced behind him and saw Rogue and Kitty walking towards them.
“Hey Sam! Who’s this?” Katherine ‘Kitty’ Pryde asked smiling over to Dean, who winked and grinned at her, causing her to giggle.
“Dean Winchester, Sammy’s older brother, it’s an honor to meet such a beautiful woman,” Dean stated, bringing Kitty’s hand to his lips.
“Kitty Pryde,” Kitty introduced, still giggling from the compliment. At the same time, not that the other knew it, both Rogue and Sam rolled their eyes at the two.
“So, what are you doing?” Rogue asked Sam, ignoring the flirting Kitty and Dean.
“Verve’s homework… did you get number eighteen? I’m stuck on it and I can’t seem to find the answer.” Sam stated, scratching his head in embarrassment.
“Yeah I did, he said the answer in class yesterday? Weren’t you paying attention?” Rogue asked smiling and an eyebrow rose in amusement. However, she pulled out her book and handed it over to him, “here.”
I was a little preoccupied, Sam thought to himself, blushing as he remembered he had been thinking about her at the time.
He knew she couldn’t touch anyone, at least not with a risk of killing them, but Sam didn’t care. All he wanted was to hold her and kiss her forever. He couldn’t really tell her though; he knew she didn’t want anything more then to be friends with him and it would beyond awkward to tell her. Why should he ruin one of the best relationships he ever had with anyone? He didn’t want her to feel even more frustrated at being unable to touch somebody who loved her...
Sam glanced up quickly to check if anyone had heard him… he had been thinking it of course, but with a mansion full of mutants, you can never be too careful. It didn’t seem like anyone heard him, so he let out a relieved breath.
He tried to calm himself, he had been getting overly excited for just a normal evening out with Rogue, but it was the first time they were going to the movies… alone. He couldn’t help but hoped something more came out of tonight, not what Dean would hope to get, but a deeper relationship with Rogue… possibly a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.
However if it took longer then tonight to get Rogue to see he wanted to be with her and that he loved her and he wasn't afraid of her, well then he would wait… she was definitely worth waiting for.
His nervous smile turned into a full-fledge happy grin as Rogue walked down the staircase. She wore a dark purple halter top and a knee length skirt with a white chain that hung around her waist. She wore knee black boots, long dark purple gloves to cover her skin, and a light purple scarf around her neck. Sam blushed at how beautiful she was. Thankfully he had dressed up somewhat fancy as well, with a black button-down shirt and black dress pants.
“You dress up good, Sam,” Rogue stated as she took in what he wore with a smile. Sam blushed lightly.
“And you’re…” He couldn’t quite find the word.
“I think the word you’re looking for is gorgeous,” Jean Grey stated with a smile. Rogue and Sam glanced over to her. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but the Professor wants to speak with you Sam.”
Sam nodded and faced Rogue again as Jean left them smirking to herself.
“You really are pretty tonight, not that you aren’t usually, but you look really good tonight-” He cut his rambling off before he made a real fool of himself. “I, uh, better go so we can still make it for the movie.”
“Sam?”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you.”
He started to walk backwards towards the hallway he knew Xavier was, and grinned stupidly in bliss. Rogue let out a small laugh, watching him almost bump into a vase. She waited by the stairs, trying to slow her nerves down.
He returned almost ten minutes later, and despite her questions, he wouldn’t answer why the Professor had needed him. He had a secret smile that she knew something was going to happen, but she wasn’t entirely sure what, but she guessed it had to do with her.
Sam could barely contain himself as they watched the movie; the Professor and Hank McCoy had been finally able to create something that would allow Rogue to control her powers. Thanks to both technology and magic (his father’s); it had finally managed to work. Everyone at the mansion, including Professor X, believed he should be the one to give her the device, which just happened to be a ring. Ideas of how to present it to her kept wheeling inside his head as he half-watched the movie. They were going to a small restaurant afterwards, nothing fancy or really romantic, but it served its use for people who wanted nice, relaxed, and content area to speak to friends or colleagues.
“Are you ever going to tell me about earlier with the Professor?” She was clearly annoyed, her southern accent thickened, which caused his grin to widen. He loved when her southern accent deepened, even if it was because she was getting angry.
He stayed silent before taking the ring out of his pocket, it was in a little ring box and as soon as he took it out he wanted to laugh at her reaction. Her mouth had dropped open in surprise and complete shock as he opened it and took it out of the box.
“You have to take off your gloves,” Sam stated, and Rogue stared up in his eyes in worry and shook her head.
“I can’t do that Sam, you know that.”
“Trust me,” Sam said, giving her an encouraging smile. Taking a deep breath, Rogue glanced around her to make sure no one was close enough to go near her and slowly took off each glove. Rogue gently held her hand out like she was going to hold it and put it on herself.
Sam grinned and took her hand in his, tightly so she couldn’t jerk her hand out of his and put the ring on her finger, and whispered “regnum” to the ring. A light glow to the ring came and went as the spell was activated.
Rogue grasped in surprise as she realized nothing was happening – no rushing memories or emotions or thoughts - nothing but warmth of Sam’s skin.
“I…” She stuttered for the first time in a long time, she didn’t know what to say.
“You can touch now,” Sam said and Rogue touched his face almost before she knew what she was doing. He blushed as she caressed his cheek. Realizing what she was doing, Rogue pulled her hand away and blushed scarlet.
“Thank you,” Rogue said, “you have no idea how much this means to me.”
“Your welcome, I’m just glad my dad was able to help.”
“How did they do it?”
“Well, I’m not entirely how they did it but only that it took magic in the end to boost the ring's power to allow you to control your powers. Now they come on when you want them to, and not just all the time.”
“I love it, thank you… and I mean you. I really appreciate that you were the one to give this to me.” Rogue stated, smiling at him. Sam blushed again and shrugged his shoulders gently.
“It was my pleasure,” Sam said.
Rogue smile turned shy as she cleared her throat nervously, “would it be okay, if I, uh, kiss you right now?’
Of all the things he thought she would say, that was not one of them.
“I’m not just going to kiss you because I can kiss anyone now, but I’ve really wanted to kiss you for a long time… and I know that was a barrier between us, or at least I made it the barrier between us. I just didn’t want you to get hurt by accident or anything,” Rogue rambled on, trying to justify her request to kiss him. Sam listened, still slightly in shock, but felt an unbelievable surge of excitement as he continued listening to her ramble… this was the first time he had even her ramble and she was adorable. He really wasn’t sure what to say, but he knew what he wanted to do.
So he did, causing her eyes to close and wrap her arms around his neck.
Before he lost his thoughts to their first kiss together, he knew this had been definitely worth waiting for.
THE END.
