"Eloise." Cressida breathed out the name she'd been hoping to see all night. It felt as if she could finally take a breath of fresh air for the first time all night at the sight of Eloise Bridgerton. She had hoped she'd see Eloise tonight, but she'd had lost some of that hope after seeing the rest of the Bridgertons earlier without her. But no, Eloise Bridgerton stood there, in her blue and teal ball gown. She looked utterly beautiful.
"Good evening." Eloise managed to greet, with a small smile.
And it felt almost perfect, seeing her again. Better than she'd expected. She wanted to laugh in relief or just go to Eloise and apologize for everything - she wanted so desperately to go to her.
"I have a feeling the Queen is not going to attend at all."
The comment about the queen pops the bubble of relief and calmness of Eloise's presence had brought her, and Cressida turns away from Eloise in embarrassment. It's nothing less than she probably deserved for what happened last season, Cressida rationed as she walked away to look for her husband even as she wished she could go back to Eloise. Her chest tightened as she walked further away from Eloise. But she promised herself she'd speak with her again later, after she deals with this disaster of a ball.
THE END.
