Kara still wasn’t quite sure how Cat Grant managed to wrangle her to help Maxwell Lord but she did, as if he didn’t have his own assistant who was a powerhouse and was always on top of everything – or a building full of employees that were paid to do whatever it is they do plus assumingly whatever Maxwell wished for. Still, here she sat across from him at his desk, her mind half on the work in front of them, and half on the man in front of her. She wasn’t sure when exactly he’d become just Maxwell in her head during the night and not ‘Maxwell Lord’ or ‘Mr. Lord’, but she noticed that she couldn’t put it back. Not with his gentle words and actions tonight, or what she’d seen him do in the earthquake disaster despite his quips about Supergirl. He may have also put his logo on everything he gave out, but at least he was out doing the work – how many CEOs would have stood out there and helped?

“Did you want the last potsticker?” Maxwell asked, gesturing to the container in between them. He’d ordered a late dinner for them when he heard her stomach rumble much to Kara’s horror. He had just laughed it off and apologized for taking over her night and then proceeded to order her favorites after she listed them. She had half expected him to order something awful or super expensive like snail eggs, but nope, he ordered pizza and potstickers which they both devoured.

“Thank you,” Kara said softly and unable to help herself, she grinned at him. The grin she received in return tugged at her heartstrings. She wasn’t sure how to react to this version of him - this version of him that didn’t hate her and treated her with respect and interest, and actually listened to her and followed her suggestions. She wanted more, even though she should hold on to her anger with him – between his apparent hatred for Supergirl and what happened with Knox. Maybe if she talked to him, show him that she wasn’t what he feared – maybe she could change his mind on Supergirl.

THE END. For now?
