This is for everyone that reads my Kara/Maxwell soulmate AU first words spoken (can open a heart). Also yes, I picked the guards names to honor the Arrowverse actors. ;) Otherwise they were just gonna be nameless.

Maxwell Lord pushes her down behind his desk and away from the gunfire aimed at them. Thanks to his security guards, they were not directly fired upon, but he knew there was always a possibility of a stray bullet could come their way and he didn’t want to chance Kara’s safety. Or his, but he was mainly worried about her. He didn’t want to think about losing her.

Kara scoffs but lets him put himself before her, wishing not for the first time that she’d told him what she could do. If she had told him what she was, or what she could do, then she’d already have this little threat dealt with. But she hadn’t. She couldn’t, right? He had complicated feelings about Superman; she knew that, what would he feel about his girlfriend being a Kryptonian as well? But how could she just sit here and let this happen?

In the end, a stray bullet hits one of his security guards – Grant – in the arm, and Kara makes the decision to stop everything in that same moment – she liked his guards, knew the one that had got hit had a family waiting for him at home and she couldn’t stand by another second. Wrenching off her glasses, she uses her super-speed to stand in front of the attackers, shocking all three of them into stopping.

“Didn’t your mother ever teach you guys to not play with guns?” Kara asked with a hard grin, glaring at them – making her eyes glow as if she would use her heat vision. In seconds, she rounded up all of their weapons and broke each and every one of them. The three attackers fell back in horror at the thought of what she might do to them. “Sorry boys, you’re not going anywhere – well except for jail.” She admitted with an amused huff as she quickly tied the three men together and pushed them towards the guards – Taylor and Stephen – still standing.

“Thank you,” Grant said from the floor with Peter beside him, who was keeping pressure on the bullet wound.

She smiled at them, happy that they were all okay.

“Kara?”

Maxwell’s voice from behind her made her wince; it was laced with disbelief and anger. She knew what she did, revealing herself in front of him was the best choice to make – to save him and his guards – but she also knew that their relationship was going to change now that he knew she has powers. Hopefully for the better, but she knew there was every possibility that it wouldn’t – that he could even possibly be disgusted by her – her lies, her abilities, her alien status. She hoped he wasn’t, hoped that he would understand.

Without another word from their boss, the Lord security guards quickly moved out of the room; Grant with the help of Peter, Taylor and Stephen pushing the attackers out of the room, leaving Kara and Maxwell alone in his office.

Maxwell stood in front of his desk now, surrounded by bullet holes and chaos. Her heart leaped at the sight of him, as it often did, even with his disgruntled appearance and a frown so deep it seemed to reach everywhere in his face – his eyes held pain and disbelief, even some anger, but it also seemed to soften as he continued to stare at her.

“How?” Maxwell asked finally, his voice softer now that he could take in Kara fully.

She stood with her back straight facing him and watching him as he did her, her coral blouse and blue jeans only slightly ruffled from the super-speed. Kara’s hair fell loosely around her face, her eyes softening as she studied him. He wanted to be angry with her – he is angry with her but only just – but all he could feel was relief. She was alright, they were no longer being shot at and they were safe. She was safe.

Biting her lip, almost hesitant on finally speaking the words she’s wanted to tell him since they started dating, she stepped closer to him. “I’m Kryptonian.”

“Kryptonian? I thought Superman was the last one.” Maxwell asked as they moved to stand in front of another.

“He’s my cousin and it’s kinda a long story,” Kara explained with a blush, before hesitantly reaching out to touch Maxwell. “Do you hate me now?”

Maxwell shook his head with a laugh, letting out a deep sigh and pulling her towards him, wrapping his arms around hers. Kara grinned and wrapped her arms around him, careful of her hold of him.

“I don’t think it’s possible to hate you, Kara, but I think maybe later you should tell me that long story.” Maxwell suggested, leaning his forehead against hers. “Right now I just want to hold my girlfriend.”

“Sounds perfect to me.”

THE END.
