Title: Love Token
Fandoms: Doc
Pairings: Amy Larsen/Jake Heller
Rating: G
Warnings/Spoilers: Season 2 Episode 4. Maybe some magic ;)
Summary: A patient gives Amy a love token.
Notes: Written for All Ships Week 2025 Prompt #1 “What am I supposed to do with this?”. A bit more angsty than I wanted but well, just a little something for any Amy/Jake fans. I may or may not write for everyday of this "All Ships Week", and I have no idea if it'll be all for Amy/Jake but here's at least one. Patient's name is a hint to a Witchy woman incase anyone catches it. I figured it's the least I could do for this spooky season. Also only saw S2E4 once so forgive any discrepancies.
“What am I supposed to do with this?” The words spill from her lips before she could think to say anything else, and the older woman in the bed laughed instead of maybe feeling insulted at the question. Amy tried to smile at the woman, but it felt hollow even to her as she gripped the little token in her hand.
"It's a little love catcher, just something to help you," Mrs. Stephens explains softly, her eyes studying the younger woman. "I can see heartbreak all over you, darling and I for one hate it. I think you've had enough of that which I think both of us can agree with."
"You don't even know me," Amy replies quickly, trying her hardest not to look towards the doors, where she knew if she looked Jake would be by the door. He'd only just left and only to give them time that the woman asked for.
"Maybe I don't, but the heartbreak is all over you two. That I know very well." The older patient nodded towards the door, "The hottie doctor know you love him back? Doesn't he? Why aren't you two together?"
Her grip on the token and tablet tightened, knowing he could definitely still hear them if he had lingered... she knew he had to be close but she wasn't sure how close. It was bad enough that she had to pretend that her heart wasn't breaking in front of him and everyone else the rest of the time, but now to have a stranger - a patient - see it was somehow both harder and easier to deal with.
"It's complicated," Amy managed, biting her lip and the older woman laughed again, almost like a cackle.
"Darling when isn't it complicated? I get it, you don't have to tell me anything - I know people think I'm a little kooky darling." Another little laugh, and for a moment Amy couldn't think to say anything. "Better hurry along, I'm sure he's waiting for you to catch up."
She leaves the room without looking back, despite knowing she's appearing rude again but she can't help but want out. It was bad enough being on egg shells for first half of the shift alongside Jake and now this? Between this and the memory flashes she's been experiencing - for the first time since her accident she wanted to go home. And not home to Michael and that house. But home to her apartment with Katie... and a larger part of her just wanted to go home - home to his house, to his bed. Spending the rest of her life under covers with him by her side.
Her heart aches at those thoughts.
She was right of course, when she leaves the room, he's just right outside it and she knows she should probably feel a tiny bit angry that he didn't trust her to not get in trouble (which to be fair to him lately, is probably true)... but was this trouble? Receiving a love charm or love token of some sort from an older patient - a patient that seemed to have already sniffed them out faster than anyone ever did before. She doesn't think so, even if it makes her want to bury herself in his arms no matter the cost - no matter the looks or what might happen. At least she would be in his arms again.
"Amy? You okay?" Jake manages to ask, and she can see his hesitation, can already see him wanting to reach for her to comfort her - from what, who knows, but she's oddly comforted by it anyway. Knowing that despite his words yesterday and despite everything that's going on he still wants her to be okay. He still wants her to be happy. She takes a deep breath and manages she thinks is a half decent smile at him. She holds up the love token.
"Just someone spreading kindness," Amy explains softly. It's not quite an explanation and she can see that in his eyes but he lets her have it and his eyes soften just so. She knows those soften eyes, knows he wants to kiss her and pull her into his arms. Instead he holds himself back and she grips the tablet to her body and brings the love token closer to her body again. She wants desperately to fall into his arms again, to have him kiss her again. To make everything right again.
She hopes the love token works. Maybe not right now, but soon.
THE END.
